Program Director's Welcome Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Matthew D. Garber, M.D. Program Director Lisa M. Awe, M.D., FAAP Associate Program Director Welcome to the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship Program in the department of pediatrics’ division of pediatric hospital medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville. This program is accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, or ACGME. Our program is a collaborative effort between the major pediatric institutions in Jacksonville: the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville, Wolfson Children’s Hospital and Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville. We are proud to be able to train future leaders in the field. Our two-year program offers outstanding training that prepares fellows for university-affiliated and community hospital positions in pediatric hospital medicine. Our program is an exciting opportunity to maximize your potential as a clinician, quality improvement practitioner, and researcher through expert mentorship, structured educational opportunities, and access to the resources of all three institutions. Fellows interact with patients at two very different inpatient sites: Wolfson Children's Hospital is the only full-service tertiary hospital for children in the region, serving North Florida, South Georgia and beyond. Fellows will hone their clinical and leadership skills caring for patients with medical complexity while directing family-centered rounds with a team of residents, medical students, nurses, pharmacists and other health care team members. Fellows will also face the challenges of simultaneously caring for healthy newborns, attending high-risk deliveries and rounding on inpatients at UF Health Jacksonville, our community setting. Additionally, the University of Florida College of Medicine – Jacksonville and Nemours Children's Health, Jacksonville, offer outpatient experiences caring for children with medical complexity and children requiring pediatric subspecialty care. Jacksonville is also a wonderful place to live. It offers a nice balance of urban and suburban living, easy access to beaches, and short drives to major sites. The weather is warm and allows for many family-friendly outdoor activities. Our location allows for a patient base that spans from Southern Georgia, as far west as Tallahassee, and as far south as Daytona Beach in addition to national and international referrals. We are happy to provide you with further details. Please feel free to contact us with any additional questions. Matthew D.
